Nicola LeFanu (born 27th January 1947) is a British composer. She was born to Ireland|Irish parents, one of whom was the composer Elizabeth Maconchy. She studied at Oxford University before taking up a Harkness Fellowship in the U.S. She later held a professorship at King's College London, and since 1994 she has held the Chair of Music at the University of York. She is married to the composer David Lumsdaine. LeFanu has written around sixty works, including music for orchestra, chamber groups and voices, as well as six operas.
