The main cause for this phenomenon is air which enters the relaxed/stretched vagina during intercourse via withdrawal or size discrepancy, and is then trapped inside due to reinsertion of the penis or dildo. This causes the air to be forced out from the sides which creates the sound. The wetness of intercourse makes the sound louder and more noticeable. The air can also sometimes be forced out after intercourse. Some women are even able to produce the effect by getting into a "doggy" position, opening the labia and relaxing the muscles inside the vagina and then pushing it back out again using the Kegel muscles. Some women experience an increase in vaginal flatulence after child birth or as a result of a hysterectomy. If vaginal flatulence is undesirable, the main chances of this occurring can be minimized: for vaginal intercourse, the outward pushing Kegel exercise can reduce the chance of it happening, as well as avoidance of list of sex positions|sexual positions where the woman raises her hips and thighs (such as when raising the legs over the head, which helps to form a tight seal during the inward strokes.) Artificial lubrication may also help to reduce incidents. "Queef","front fart","basket noise","vaj flatch","pussy fart", "vart", vajart, air biscuit, and "'<i>Heaven's Biscuit</i>'" are all slang terms which refer to vaginal flatulence. ("Queef" derived from the sound.) The sound can also be considered erotic, and is the subject of a pornographic sub-genre. Porn Star Lindsay Lohag (real name Karen Peterson) Popularized the sensuality of the Queef through her movies Come Queef With Me Volumes 1 through 49, featuring the musical hit of the same title, sung by former porn director Max Goldberg.
